Bifaria Privacy Policy

Speech and text

When you record, Bifaria transcribes your speech on your iPhone, with a speech model it has downloaded or with Apple's built-in speech recognition. Cleanup and translation also run on your iPhone. Your audio and the resulting text are never uploaded.

Your transcripts (History), the step-by-step records of each recording (Logs) and, when Settings › Storage is set to Audio + transcript (the default), the recordings themselves are stored only on your iPhone. Recordings are kept so you can play them back while correcting a transcript and run them again in Audio Lab. They are deleted after 1 day unless you choose a longer time. Choose Transcript only or Don't save to stop keeping audio; recordings already kept are then deleted. Anything kept is removed when you delete it in the app, when it reaches the auto-delete age you choose, when recordings reach the space limit you set, or when you delete Bifaria.

Bifaria leaves History, Logs and recordings out of iCloud and computer backups, so they aren't copied to Apple's servers or to your computer, and a new iPhone starts without them. iOS encrypts them with your passcode: while your iPhone is locked, they can't be read, even by Bifaria.

You can lock Bifaria, or just History, Audio Lab and Logs, with Face ID or your passcode in Settings › Privacy. Face ID is handled by iOS; Bifaria only learns whether it succeeded. While your iPhone is locked, the Live Activity doesn't show your transcript.

Audio and video files you import into Audio Lab are read and transcribed on your iPhone and are never uploaded.

Microphone and speech recognition

Bifaria asks for access to the microphone so it can record you, and to Apple's speech recognition if you choose the Apple engine. It records only after you start a recording, from the app, a widget, a control or a shortcut. While it records, iOS shows the recording indicator and Bifaria shows a Live Activity.

Network use

Bifaria connects to the internet only to download the speech and translation models you choose. These downloads come from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) and, for Apple's speech and translation languages, from Apple. Like any download, these servers see your IP address. Bifaria doesn't send them your audio, your text or any identifier. After a model has downloaded, Bifaria works offline.

Clipboard, sharing and shortcuts

Bifaria copies transcripts to the clipboard when you ask it to (or automatically, if that setting is on). When you use a Bifaria shortcut, the transcript is passed to Apple's Shortcuts app on your iPhone. Text, files or logs leave your iPhone only when you share them yourself with the share sheet.

Purchases

Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple through the App Store. We don't receive your name, email address or payment details. Bifaria stores the start date of your free trial in your iPhone's Keychain, so the trial isn't restarted by reinstalling. This date stays on your iPhone. Apple's handling of purchases is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Children

Bifaria collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If Bifaria ever adds a feature that sends data off your iPhone, it will be optional, it will ask for your consent first, and this policy will be updated before that version is released. The date at the top shows the latest update.
